loft traditionally, rolls of itchy fibreglass insulation were laid across loft spaces.
Modern loft insulation is very different from the traditional, “itchy” style and consists of a “quilt” of environmentally friendly mineral fibres that is laid between and across the joists in your loft. Loft insulation installers use two layers of material, the first laid between joists and the second across the top at a right angle to the first layer. Not only does this ensure there are no gaps, it also brings the insulation up to the required depth for current building regulation standards.

If left undisturbed your loft insulation should last indefinitely, meaning you don’t have to go through the hassle of having new loft insulation installed every few years.

HOW MUCH DOES LOFT INSULATION COST?

The cost of Loft Insulation is relatively cheap and, as we’ve already mentioned, loft insulation is a quick, easy way of saving both money and energy in your home.
In a previously uninsulated loft in a gas heated, semi-detached three bedroom home , installing 270mm of loft insulation could save up to £180 per year, along with around 730kg of carbon dioxide.*

By topping up loft insulation from 100mm to 270mm, you could save yourself £25 per year and around 110kg of carbon dioxide.*

FUNDING

There are loft insulation grants and funding schemes available that could allow you to insulate your loft for free.
